In January we began meeting on Sunday evenings for Mission Focus 2022. These sessions were designed to give information, inspiration, and motivation to lead us through three church-wide summits. The goal was to develop a plan to move forward as a church with a clear vision statement that would build off our past and propel us to the future. The things we learned in the three summits were taken to the Refocusing Team and a plan was developed. Last Sunday we had our final Mission Focus 2022 gathering and the vision statement was presented for discussion. It is exciting to see how far we have come.
The journey has been fun and challenging. Our Mission Focus 2022 events were well attended and the attitude in the room was amazing. We averaged around 50 adults every Sunday evening. Over the three summits we had 113 different people attend as we worked to understand our past and look to the future. The Refocusing Team, nominated by those attending Mission Focus 2022, worked over ten hours trying to put into words what we were learning in the summits. What is being presented to the church is a culmination of over 30 hours of large group and small group work where everyone had an equal voice around the table.
This Sunday, May 8, we will be passing out copies of this statement. On Sunday, May 15, at 5:00, we will have our next Business Conference. We are asking the church to vote to adopt the document as our working vision moving forward. Assuming the acceptance of the vision statement, we will then be voting to form a Restructuring Team to help us move forward with the first strategic initiative which is to reorganize the church in order to help us more effectively and efficiently carry out its purpose. This group will be meeting weekly in the Fall (Sunday evenings at 6:15) in order to accomplish this important task. The best way to accomplish a goal is to have an effective and efficient structure. The goal of the team is to create a new church structure that will help us effectively and efficiently, with accountability, accomplish our vision.
Having the plan in place sure sounds like a great finish after four hard months of working. However, it is just the beginning. We wasted the last four months unless we are willing to work hard to accomplish it. The document is not the finish line. It is just the map that gets us on the right road. Now it is time to start the race.
“They who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)
“...do not grow weary in doing good.” (2 Thessalonians 3:13)
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1-2)
