We are called to be good stewards of everything entrusted to us as individuals and as a church. Jesus said, “Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required…” (Luke22:48). It is easy for us to apply this to finances and church property. However, I also believe that this applies to the children God places in our care. We have a responsibility to love the children as Jesus did. We have the responsibility to train them in righteousness. The ultimate responsibility is upon the parents, but the church should not take lightly its responsibility to love and train them. That is why we have made a commitment to our parents that when their children are in our care they will be loved, protected, and taught.
If we want God to continue to bless us with young families and children, we must meet their spiritual needs. Therefore, we need volunteers to step up for two very important ministries to our children. We still need help in Vacation Bible School, and we have teaching positions open in Sunday School. It would be a shame to have to group children into larger classes that make for less ideal teaching conditions. There are plenty of people in our church to more than cover these few needs.
I truly believe the future of our outreach to young families is bright. We have a lot to offer them. And the long-term health of our church is dependent upon our ability to reach these families. We can do this. Our struggle in recruiting volunteers is a symptom of what happens when the momentum has been stopped and we are having to get things moving again. To get the ball rolling again it takes more effort from all of us. It is always easier to keep something moving than it is to get it started. Pray about how you can help. Call Sydney and find out how you can help or talk to her on Sunday. Our ability to be good stewards of these children is dependent upon all of us doing our part. Thank you for making our children’s ministry a place parents are excited to bring their children.
